thyssenkrupp Electrical Steel India Private Limited (tkES India)
In 1995, Raymond Limited started a unit, Raymond Steel, at Nashik, India, to manufacture Electrical Steel and Carbon Steel. Nashik city is situated in western part of country and it is 155 km away from Mumbai, the financial capital of India. Nashik is well connected thru road, rail & air and it is near to biggest port in Mumbai.
In September 2000, EBG India Private Limited was formed with thyssenKrupp having 76% stake and Raymond the balance 24%. In the year 2004, tk ES India turned around and became a profitable company. thyssenKrupp later went on to purchase the balance shares from Raymond and the company became 100% subsidiary of thyssenKrupp Electrical Steel, Germany and renamed as thyssenKrupp Electrical Steel India Private Limited in the same year.
CRGO and CRNGO were main products which were made in India. Subsequently under a strategic move it was decided in 2016 to modify the plant so as to be the first CRGO producers of the country with Hot rolled coils being imported from the European mother plants. tk ES India has started commercial production of CRGO steel from 2018 onwards. New investment has made Indian plant capable of producing fully finished Grain Oriented steel from hot rolled coils and first of its kind in India.
Although CRGO was in production since 1998 thru semi processed material but it was 2018 tk ES India expanded its capacity and also has its production upstream from Cold rolling onwards. New investment has made Indian plant capable of producing fully finished Grain Oriented steel (Hi B and laser grades)
Fully finished CRGO “Made in India” has been exported to numerous customers, in multiple countries spread across the globe. European sales and customer service team along with the Indian counterparts are continuously working in tandem to service customers around the world.
Indian plant has been successfully approved by many OEMs and utility companies of the country. India’s Central Transmission Utility company called Power Grid Corporation Of India has also approved the production facility starting from Hot Rolled coils. This approval has placed tk ES as active producer & seller on energy map of India.
Indian utilities have implemented stringent guidelines for distribution transformers in India and that has pushed the trend towards consumption of 0.23 mm top grades. To be in line with market tk ES India has also shifted its focus on 0.23 mm grades and in short span of time successfully stated commercial production of 0.23 mm grades including top grades like 23HP085d & 23HP090d. This move has been appreciated by local OEMs and processors who were earlier dependent on imports.
As the only CRGO producer of India this Operating Unit of thyssenkrupp Electrical Steel Gmbh produces and sells powercore®, a complete range of high quality grain oriented electrical steel products.
The use of Electrical Steel’s innovative high-tech powercore® C and powercCore® H electrical steels in distribution and power transformers goes a long way towards minimizing core loss in the transmission and distribution of electrical energy.
